Ukraine Pursues Diplomacy with Turkey and NATO to Counter Russia

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy discussed a peace plan, NATO and a grain deal with Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Friday. Meanwhile, former US vice president Mike Pence warned that the US would go to war with Russia if Ukraine falls. NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced a program for Kyiv that will provide more political cooperation and defense guarantees.

Putin Defiant as Ukraine Advances and Violence Escalates

Russia's president Vladimir Putin said Russia will stand up against sanctions and provocations, while Ukraine reported heavy fighting as its troops pushed towards Bakhmut. A Ukrainian author died from wounds sustained in a missile attack in Kramatorsk, and a Russian arms dealer swapped for a US journalist will contest a local election in Ulyanovsk. Russia also claimed to have foiled an assassination attempt on the leader of Crimea, Sergey Aksyonov.

Russia Strikes Lviv as Ukraine Fights Back

Six people were killed as a Russian strike hit Lviv apartments on Tuesday, one of the biggest attacks on the west Ukrainian city. Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko said Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin, who led a short-lived mutiny in Russia, is in St Petersburg. While Russia continued its lethal missile and drone strikes, Ukraine is embarking on the offensive.
